Retroskop

Retroskop was created as a comprehensive revision of my typeface ‘PTL Skopex Serif’, so comprehensive that Retroskop has evolved into a new typeface in its own right. Only the name is still reminiscent of ‘PTL Skopex’.

Retroskop was designed specifically as a text typeface, interpreting transitional typefaces from a contemporary perspective and synthesizing various formal design ideas. Characteristic are the combinations of soft and sharp forms (especially in the distinctive cut terminals), slightly triangular serifs, lightly accented inktraps and many nuanced details. The Italic in particular makes a crisp impression with some sharp-edged details in its letterforms. The ascenders and descenders are kept relatively short, creating a compact texture.

Currently, the beta version of Retroskop is available in regular weight with three widths Narrow, Standard and Monospace as well as matching Italics, each with advanced layout features. The character set includes small caps, lining and old style figure sets, case-sensitive punctuation, standard and discretionary ligatures, symbols, arrows, fractions, superiors, inferiors, numerators and denominators, and broad language support. Further weights and a light display version are in the making.
